Summer Teen Group!!!!

My mind is already buzzing with the possibilities for summer! Last year 12 teens were a part of the Summer Teen Group and I'm hoping for an even bigger turnout this year. This year we'll be cleaning, grooming and working with the animals again but also working on building a new potbelly pig area and playground for the visitors. I'll also be using some of the teen volunteers to work with the groups that come to visit: guiding them and working with the crafts. Sound interesting? Give me a call. This summer we'll be working two days a week. Pick a day and spend a couple hours with me and the animals for 6-8 weeks this summer. Find out more by emailing CAF1@ptd.net. Also, take a look at photos of the group from 2000 or 2004.

There is always a need for loving, caring help at the Farm. Below are some examples of how your talents can be utilized at the Farm. Because of the diversity there are tasks that can fit anyone's schedule and still benefit the Farm great deal. Peruse the ideas below to get an idea of the scope of opportunities and then call Donna at 570-686-3480 for more info.

Fostering animals - Take a baby animal home! Care for it and socialize it (seasonal and dependent upon which baby animals are born when). Foster a pot belly pig or take home a baby goat or deer to bottle-feed or cuddle a ferret or coati-mundi for a couple of months. Bottlefeeders are usually needed in the spring. Foster parents are needed during the year but are especially important during the winter months.

Working with the visiting groups - Assist Donna in guiding the visitor tours around the Farm and working with storytelling and/or crafts.

Farm work - For the hardy of body and heart; this includes anything from feeding and grooming of animals to the cleaning and mucking of stalls and pens.

Maintenance & building - Help to put up enclosures, dig trenches, build barns or playgrounds or signs.

Fundraisers - Anything from office work to organization to actually working the event that day.

Grant writers - Desperate need! Need we say more? It is time consuming and skillful work.

Miscellaneous - Got a couple of free hours? Come pack up Christmas presents for the children at holiday time. Fold newsletters. Take photographs. Unwrap donated bread to feed to the hogs. Walk a dog or a mini-pony. Play basketball in a wheelchair. Canoe down a river. The possibilities are endless!
